The 2014 Country Conference in Queanbeyan was a huge success with nearly 300 delegates and members in attendance.
The three-day conference commenced with the Country Campaign Insight where Country Labor candidates and their teams learnt about the latest campaign strategies and techniques ahead of next year’s state election. This training included a phone banking session allowing attendees to receive hands on training with one of the most vital pieces of campaigning infrastructure.
Federal Labor leader Bill Shorten was the special guest at the training seminar and gave a rousing speech to delegates, reflecting on the success of Country Labor in NSW.
Country Labor MLC and candidate for Monaro, Steve Whan officially opened the Conference on Saturday morning. This was followed by an address by Unions NSW Secretary and Party President, Mark Lennon.
True to form, NSW Labor Parliamentary Leader, John Robertson gave an excellent speech to the Party faithful.
John reaffirmed that Labor believes in a hospital system that is run for patients, not profits and that Labor would never tolerate the privatisation of any public hospital in NSW.
John said that the March election is there to be won. He reminded candidates and party members that the time to stand up is now. John said, “With the help of our fantastic candidates and our branch members… we will win back country seats. We will elect a Labor Government that puts people at the centre of every decision we make.”
